The Village

Let's go to Bendang!! Yeah. this is the time to play at the paddy field. For your information, one hundred students riding on three buses was headed for Kampung Sawah Sempadan, Tanjong Karang (my father hometown) a small town located about seven kilometers north of Kuala Selangor town, right after Pasir Penambang. These traditional fishing villages which made up of Malay and Chinese communities, have some excellent seafood restaurants. The purpose of this excursion was to fulfill one of the requirements of the elective subject, Communication and Change to give new experience to the students who had never been to a paddy field before. When they reached Kampung Sawah Sempadan, they saw the beautiful and fascinating view of green carpet like paddy fields that they only saw on television. It was in this village that the famous drama "Nur Kasih" acted by Remy Ishak and Tiz Zakyah was shot. When they finally reached there, everybody was taken in by the scenery and started snapping pictures and they were quite surprised when they were joyfully welcomed by the villagers. All of the students were assigned into groups and they made their way to their host families' homes. During the visit, it rained almost all the time. unlike in Shah Alam, the weather there was cold and some felt like staying there for good. 

During the weekend visit, they did many kinds of activities such as going to the paddy fields, tasting new types of food, exploring the village and getting to know about their social activities. Most surprisingly is that the children were all independent and their parents do not have to instruct them to do things. they woke up and perform their solat by themselves, and helped in the kitchen without their mothers prompting them to. Last but not least, students learnt to respect the elderly more and appreciate their parents the most. It was when they had to live with other families did they find out how much they miss their parents and realized that they had to love them even more
